I am going to lose weight!!
I have tried to steer various doctors towards telling me that being overweight does not help my joints but amazingly none have said so. So dear ladies and gentlemen of the forum, for each pound that I manage to lose I shall be donating the same in sterling to NRAS. I hope that this public declaration of my current weight 91.7 Kgs (that's 14st 6lbs in english with a BMI of 30.75) will spur me on. I am giving myself a realistic time scale (the end of the year) and would welcome any tips and advice.

Hi Eve

Thrilled to hear this - I am on a sponsored weight loss for NRAS as you probably know. Maybe we could encourage each other? Jo and Jenni are also doing brilliantly and have each lost over 2 st. My loss now stands at 1st 4lbs. I did think I would have put on after the weekend in Warwick but have managed to stay the same!! Let's keep in touch on this one!

Jo and I have joined My Fitness Pal on the internet - it's free, works out your daily calorie intake and allows you bonus calories for exercise. There is also a daily food diary and a list of thousands of foods and their calorie/fat/salt content.

All the best with it.

Love Jeanxx

hi Eve,

just wanted to wish you good luck.

losing weight isn't easy but i managed to lose a vast amount in 2008 it took me a year,

i went to a Clinic and was given a well balanced diet planned for me. it was normal food but under portion control.

i had to have very limited Carbs.

now i have maintained my weight well for two years.

i would be housebound now if i hadn't have lost the weight as i have bad Osteo in both knee's.

keep posting and let us know how you get on.

P.S. to Jean well done you Smile

Well done Eve on taking up the challenge ThumpUp It really will do your joints a lot of good and they WILL benefit from any weight loss (whether the doctor tells you or not!), and the more the better! You will notice it too!

All you 'weight loss' souls are doing so well with this. Keep up the good work ladies and keep posting the improvement.

well I had a bit of a slow start, like not really dieting at all for a month or so, but have finally managed to rid myself of just over the first stone. I decided to go vegan for a while to see how that worked and I don't really feel it is any hardship, though in our house it's like the nursery rhyme,"Jack Spratt could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean" because at the same time hubby has decided he would go the atkins route. As I am not being a vegan for ethical reasons I really dont mind preparing meat, though of course I can't test what I am cooking, but I've not had any complaints so far. One thing I have done, which both horrifies me and spurs me on, is to collect sand in a strong carrier bag which weighs the same as I have lost, adding to it each time I lose a little - much easier to do if you are weighing yourself in kilos and grams. When I pick it up I am shocked but eager to make it even more shocking. The beach is only 200m from the front door walking or 700m on the bike, so there is a plentiful supply and a good excuse for a little exercise.
I hope jo, jenni, and jean are still doing well - we must have lost a whole person between us by now!

I've slowed down a bit, I'm afraid and now weigh in at 16st as opposed to the 18st 10 I was when Istarted. I have been a bit naughty but have GOT to buckle down to it again. A stone in the first month is really great start, Eve. Jenni and I are a couple of lazy so and so's who use wheelchairs to get around. If we walked a bit more, we might loose a bit more!! Jenni is doing brilliantly and you can tell just how much she has lost by looking at some of her photos on FB. Keep up the good work and keep posting!

hello jean, well it's actually taken me over two months which I am more than happy about, I've done too many of these quickly off, quickly on diets in my lifetime. Don't despair jean, 2stone 10 lbs is amazing, it must be doubly difficult to lose weight when you are reliant on a wheelchair. It would be great to see some people via facebook and now I am curious about jenni's before and after photos. I still haven't got the hang of putting photos on here but I enjoy put the odd thing on there. I am not quite ready to "like" NRAS because I don't quite like RA yet, so is there another way we can find each other?

Eve - if you give NRAS a call, they will pass on my e-mail address and we can then all exchange pics and encourage each other xxx

Ladies,

If you are happy for me to share email addresses amongst your group then I can facilitate this for you, perhaps you could each drop me an email to katy@nras.org.uk with the title - forum weight loss group, then I can create a list for you and distribute it back to the group.

Smile

Hi eve.

I have lost 3 stones now and still heading downwards. At this rate I will be "normal weight" by summer 2012

how good is that?

I just want to get smaller so I have less pressure on my joints and to feel more comfortable.
